LEIGH MATTHEWMAN
UK
Leigh Matthewman was born in London in 1972 as the son of a press photographer. His family emigrated to South Africa, when he was eleven. During that time he received an informal but very valuable training from his father. He later went on to work for various agencies and publications including Associated Press and the South African newspaper “The Weekly Mail”.
In 2002 Matthewman went to Iraq with a human shield group. Just before the war started, sawn into his bag, he smuggled out of the country more than 2000 negatives that he took in pre-war Baghdad.
Matthewman currently resides in Edinburgh, Scotland and hopes soon to return to the Middle East.
